PRRC

Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center (PRRC) is a center for learning and growth. We offer a combination of individual and group services for Veterans who are having difficulty maintaining relationships, work, school, or other daily activities because of their mental health. The PRRC offers opportunities to improve your life by identifying your strengths, learning new skills, and making a plan to move forward with your goals.

Nevada Department of Employment, Training & Rehabilitation (DETR) is Nevada’s lead workforce development agency offering workforce development and related assistance, job placement and training, services for people with disabilities, investigation of claims of discrimination, and more.

Fisher House

Fisher House Foundation builds comfort homes where military & veteran families can stay free of charge, while a loved one is in the hospital. These homes are located at military and VA medical centers around the world. Since inception, the program has saved military and veterans’ families an estimated $610 million in out-of-pocket costs for lodging and transportation.

OMLA

Nevada Attorney General’s Office of Military Legal Assistance (OMLA) provides pro bono legal assistance and representation to active duty, reserve and National Guard service members in a wide area of civil law matters. The OMLA also currently provides assistance to veterans with wills and powers of attorney. The OMLA is the first ever, attorney general-led program offering our military communities access to pro bono civil legal services. Additionally, the program seeks to educate Nevada’s communities and create policy aimed at addressing issues affecting our state’s military families..

Nevada State Veterans Home

The Nevada State Veterans Home is dedicated to serving Nevada’s veterans who have earned special recognition through their sacrifices in protecting our country’s freedoms and individual rights. The Nevada State Veterans Home achieves this through their innovative delivery of services, skilled and compassionate staff and volunteers, and commitment to make all residents and their families feel like members of the home. The Nevada State Veterans Home provides the following patient services:

• Physical, occupational, and speech therapy • Complimentary dental, audiology, and vision assessments • Podiatry Care Program • IV Therapy • End-of-Life Care Programs • Laboratory and Pharmacy Services • Radiology and diagnostic services • Dietary services • Social services

Southern Nevada State Veterans Home The Southern Nevada State Veterans Home also offers residents a variety of programs and amenities that allow veterans to feel at home. These services include:

• A vibrant Activities Department affording access to numerous on and off-site activities • A non-denominational Chaplaincy Program designed to meet the spiritual needs of residents. • Housekeeping and laundry services • An on-site barber and beauty services shop • Resident trust fund and guardianship programs available for those residents who are in need of or desire such services • A dedicated Veterans Service Officer available to assist residents in obtaining their veteran benefits • Transportation services for home-sponsored outings • An inspiring group of community volunteers dedicated to enhancing the day-today life of residents

The Nevada DETR is the state’s lead workforce development agency. VA On-The-Job Training and Apprenticeship The VA offers training contracts for veterans with cooperation from an employer or union. At the end of the contact, a job certification is issued or journeyman status achieved. During training, most veterans receive a salary from the employer or union. Work for Warriors Work for Warriors is a free federally funded employment program open to Reservists and National Guard members and their immediate families, as well as Gold Star families and veterans in need. MILITARY RECORDS

Each military branch and the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) offers a range of services to correct military records, replace military records and medals, and review discharges from military services. Please see below for the specifics of each issue.

DD-214 and Military Records

Veterans who have lost their DD-214 or Military Discharge papers must contact the NPRC. Veterans may go online to request a copy of their DD-214, or they may fill out a SF-180 form and mail the request directly to NPRC. Military Transcripts

Veterans may obtain a copy of their military transcripts by requesting them from the Joint Services Transcript (JST) website. For more information, please visit the JST website at jst.doded.mil .

Correcting of Military Records

In order to request a correction to a military record, the veteran, survivor or legal representative must file a DD-149. It is the applicant’s responsibility to prove that there is an error in the military record and must provide related evidence to the appropriate military review board. DD-149

TAX EXEMPTIONS

Disabled Veteran Tax Exemption

The State of Nevada offers a property tax exemption to any veteran with a service-connected disability of 60 percent or more. The amount of the exemption can be up to $20,000 and can be applied to a veteran’s vehicle tax or personal property tax. Veteran eligibility is as follows:

• Honorable Discharge • 60 percent service-connect disabled • Widow or widower of a veteran who qualified for the tax exemption To determine the actual value of this benefit or to obtain further information, please contact your local County Assessor’s office (see below).

Veterans Tax Exemption

Veterans who served during wartime (including in-theater service during the Persian Gulf War, Iraq, and Afghanistan Wars) are eligible for an annual tax exemption that may be applied to their vehicle privilege tax or real property tax. Veterans may also “donate” their exempted tax directly to the Nevada Veterans’ Home Account, which will contribute the amount toward the operation of a Veterans’ Home in Nevada. To obtain this exemption, take a copy of your DD-214 or discharge papers to your local County Assessor.

HOME LOAN AND HOME RETENTION PROGRAMS

Veterans face unique housing issues which make dedicated housing services essential. Senator Rosen has worked to provide these services to our veterans so that they can share in the dream of home ownership.

Home Loan Guaranty Program

Qualified veterans and unmarried spouses of a veteran who died of service-connected disabilities may be eligible to have the home loans guaranteed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). To apply for a VA Home Loan you must first contact a lending institution that participates in the VA Home Loan Guarantee program. Home Retention Programs

Homeowners who are having difficulties making mortgage payments should contact their servicers for assistance. The VA may be able to offer assistance to veterans who have a VA Home Loan Guaranty if the servicer is unable to assist them. The following are some of the options a veteran may qualify for:

• Repayment plan • Special forbearance • Loan modification • Short sale • Deed-in-lieu of foreclosure
